DAY 1. Bouganvillea Hotel. Alajuela. Great Gardens and good birds only 45-minute drive from Airport. Ideal place to start the trip.
DAY 2-3: Savegre Lodge. San Gerardo de Dota. Best place in Costa Rica to find one of the most beautiful birds of the world: Resplendent Quetzal. This region holds many exclusive birds found only Costa Rica and Panama (Nearly endemic). A great variety of Hummingbirds. The lodge owns amazing grounds surrounded by local orchards, Savegre river and Oak cloud Forest. Elevation 7000 feet approx. / 2200 mts. The highest stop during the journey. Bring your sweater!
DAY 4-5 Selva Verde Lodge. Sarapiquí. One of the top birding areas of Costa Rica. Low land rain forest located 300 feet above sea level, hot and humid, away from the coast line but influenced from Caribbean bird species for example: the highly endangered Great Green Macaw. Sarapiqui offers a great diversity of wild life, frogs, mammals and reptiles. Definitely a major stop in the country
DAY 6-7 Boca Tapada Lodge / Laguna Lagarto Lodge. San Carlos. The best spot in the country to photograph King Vulture, Toucans and depending on the time of the year Royal Flycatcher. This region is known to be a top location for photographers where we arrange multi flash sessions for bats and hummingbirds. Most lodges here are basic but they have the best opportunities for King Vulture (hide). Toucans, oropendolas, parrots and tanagers visit feeders, placed just a few feet away from dining room. Eye leveled shot
DAY 8-9 One of the most endangered habitats in the country, wetlands. Great location for boat journeys, on search for waterfowl like Herons, Kingfishers, Jabiru Stork, Hawks and more. Beautiful sunsets or sunrises are key to get amazing shots. A unique type of photo we could get for the trip.
DAY 10. Observatory Lodge. Arenal Volcano. We use this lodge because of its gardens and the volcano scene. Also a good location between Caño Negro and Airport. Hummingbirds, tanagers, Curassow, Motmots, and other species make a good stop here.
Day 11. Buena Vista Chic Hotel. Central Valley. Surrounded by coffee fields and great views over Alajuela city. This is a great lodge to end our journey, located only 30 minutes’ drive from international airport Juan Santa Maria
